Latest Hollywood Casting News
The Rock, Lohan, Wolverine, and Wolf Man
Hollywood movies moving into production are shoring up their cast lists for upcoming films. Here is the latest in casting buzz.
Nobody can fault Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for his gutsy choices for roles. Johnson played a gay bodyguard exceptionally well in Be Cool. Now, The Rock has signed onto the movie The Tooth Fairy, albeit in an action hero sense. Johnson has been cast a as an ordinary man that is recruited to save the tooth fairy kingdom. It may be casting choice made out of guts, or out of the promise of a healthy paycheck. The movie itself may surprise most with its comedic quality, as the story is partially written by legendary comedic writer/ producer duo Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel.
Actor Dominic Monaghan (Lost, Lord of the Rings) is the latest actor to join the Wolverine movie. Monaghan has reportedly been cast as the mutant Beak. The character has had bird-like physiology in comic reincarnations. Beak also has the power to manipulate energy and electricity. Looking at Monaghan natural physical features, he does look like a bird.
Monaghan will be joining other recent casting additions Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Will.i.am, Danny Huston, Live Schreiber, and leading man/ producer Hugh Jackman.
And Lindsey Lohan will be going back to comedy, joining Jack Black in the film Ye Olde Times. The film will be a period comedy, where two rival acting troupes compete to dominate medieval entertainment. The concept has already been described as "falling somewhere between Shakespeare in Love and Meatballs. It is not yet clear what role Lohan will play in the movie. The story will feature two backstage hands moving into the starring roles for the acting troupe. Rounding out the cast is the Shakespeare of comedy, Carey Elwes, Missi Pyle, and Arrested Development brothers Will Arnett and Jason Bateman. Tim Robbins has been slated for a cameo in the film.
And the remake of The Wolf Man is back on track after the writer’s strike. The movie has already enlisted Benicio Del Toro in the title role, alongside fellow Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins, and Emily Blunt as the love interest. Another distinguished actor has been added to the cast in the form of Hugo Weaving (The Matrix trilogy, V for Vendetta). Weaving will be playing Detective Aberline, a character who didn’t appear in the original 1941 film, but is the lead authority figure in hunting down the wolf-creature. The film is now back on track since it was postponed due to necessary script rewrites that couldn’t be done during the strike.
