Street Fighter and Wolverine Casting
Two animated franchises get ready for big screen
The next round of animation and pixilation making a transition to the big screen is upon us. Here is a look at the developments of films based on popular animation.
It is no secret that the first spin-off from the successful X-Men franchise will be a movie for Wolverine, but it is only now that we know that it will rival X-Men in the amount of characters in the movie. Returning to the character that made him famous and also acting as producer is Hugh Jackman. The character of William Stryker, the man behind the Weapon X program that created Wolverine, will be played by Hollywood bad guy Danny Huston. The part was rumored to go to Liev Schrieber or Michael C. Hall in the past. Schrieber will still be in Wolverine, but he will be playing the part of Wolverine enemy Sabretooth. The characters of Stryker and Sabretooth were played in past movies by Brian Cox and former wrestler Tyler Mane respectively. Also joining the cast is Lynn Collins (Number 23) in the role of the seductive assassin Silver Fox. Silver Fox has a romantic history with Wolverine’s alter ego, Logan. And some big names will at least be making cameos in the film. It has been confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will be playing mouthy mercenary Deadpool in the film. Also joining him in the part of Gambit is Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights). Kitsch seems to be the perfect choice to play Gambit, next to Josh Holloway (Lost). It has also been revealed that huge villain The Blob will also be in the movie, but it is unknown who the actor in the fat-suit is.
The Wolverine movie is set to be a prequel to the X-Men movies. The story follows how a mutant with super-fast healing ability had his skeleton laced with an indestructible alloy, and how he got his retractable claws. It also explores the different characters he trained with, and which of them became allies, and which turned into enemies.
After a dreadful movie that starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, the video game Street Fighter will have another shot at big screen success. This time around, the central character will be gutsy female fighter Chun Li. Chun Li has been brilliantly cast by one of the most beautiful yet underused women in Hollywood, Kristin Kreuk (Smallville). Joining the cast is Oscar-nominee Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile) as the boxer Balrog. Chris Klein (American Pie) has been cast as Nash. Rick Yune (Die Another Day) has been cast as the assassin Gen. Also cast in the movie, but without any announced roles are Moon Bloodgood (Journeyman), Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, and Hong Kong star Cheng Pei Pei. The part of main villain M. Bison has not yet been cast.
