Kyla’s
ticket to stardom was when she won
the grand prize in Tanghalan ng Kampeon
at age 12. Now, at age 24, the R&B
princess is considered one of the
hottest and promising singers in the
local industry today.
Kyla’s
type of music is contemporary pop/R&B
and her unique and sensous voice never
ceases to soothe one’s soul.
Kyla’s
debut album “Way To Your Heart”
gave us the hits “Bring It On”
and |
“Hanggang Ngayon”, may be
considered one of the first authentic
R&B albums to emerge from the local
scene.
She
has won countless awards from the most
credible music award-giving bodies,
an outstanding feat singers her age
have yet to accomplish.
February
2002 was another banner year for Kyla.
She released her second self-titled
album with I Feel For You as the carrier
track. In just a relatively short amount
of time, this single reached the # 1
slot in various countdowns of most of
the top FM stations.
Kyla
has had certified hits too singing together
with Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano
for “Let’s Stop and Talk
Awhile” and is a favorite guest
amongst the premier recording artists
of the land from Regine Velasquez, Ogie
Alcasid, Janno Gibbs and Jaya.
Kyla’s
singing prowess is displayed every Sunday
on the noontime variety show SOP. She
sung the Jollibee 25th birthday song
and has performed opposite UK’s
top band Blue during the MTV Asia Awards
in Singapore last 2002.
Kyla
released her third album with the carrier
single “I Will Be There”
composed by Ogie Alcasid. She again
did a duet with Gary V. Their version
of “Sana Maulit Muli” was
a chart topper!
Ticket’s
for Kyla’s concert “Kyla:
Up Close” in 2003 at the Music
Museum was sold out. Her night show
was a showcase of her sheer talent.
Kyla also guests in sitcoms and even
did a short stint in the Jolina Magdangal
telenovela “Narito ang Puso Ko”.
Kyla
opened 2004 with her birthday celebration
at SOP with a surprise duet from the
artist who originally sang Because of
You, Keith Martin. Kyla interpreted
this song via her Perfefctly Acoustic
album released last December 2003.
Last
January 9, a fully-packed, sold out
Music Museum partied with her on her
birthday concert. Kyla considers Barbra
Steisand, Mariah Carey, Ella Mae Saison,
Jaya, Regine and Lani Misalucha as her
musical influences.
Kyla’s
fourth album, Not Your Ordinary Girl,
which has reached Platinum Status features
her hits Human Nature, Not Your Ordinary
Girl, If The Feeling Is Gone and Someone
to Love.
Kyla,
along with R&B prince Luke Mejares
opened the Alicia Keys World Tour Concert
at the Araneta and later on, she held
a concert there of her own. Not Just
Your Ordinary Girl was a sold-out concert
that proved she is indeed the R&B
princess.
Year
2005 will be a busy year for Kyla as
she goes international w/ the scheduled
release of her most recent album “Kyla,
Not Your Ordinary Girl” in Indonesia.
In July, she will be guesting in Martin
Nievera’s concert in Australia
and a US tour from August to September.
She will be wrapping off the year with
a series of shows at the Music Museum
on November and December.
